How long does it take for Microvellum Software to pay for itself?

The return on your investment of your Microvellum software can vary per company. Many of our users have reported that their Microvellum Software was paid for within the first three to six months of implementation. However, not all shops are the same and results may vary. In some cases, a Cost-benefit Analysis Report created specifically for your company helps to determine your efficiency improvements. Do I have to be an expert AutoCAD user to operate Microvellum Software?

Toolbox, Microvellum’s design / engineering application, is an AutoCAD-based application and requires that users have basic CAD skills. Understanding and being comfortable working in 2D & 3D space will go a long way to reduce the learning curve. Services are available to teach users the fundamental AutoCAD skills needed to be proficient with Toolbox. It’s important to remember, while we use AutoCAD as the engine, most of the drawing work is automated by Microvellum. This reduces the need for skills beyond a basic-level for new users.

Do I need specialty hardware to run Microvellum software?

What if I don't own AutoCAD?

Microvellum Software is compatible with full version AutoCAD® 2017, 2018, and 2019. If you don’t have a compatible version of AutoCAD®, it’s not a problem. As an Autodesk Development Partner and Certified OEM Partner, we can provide you an install that includes our OEM AutoCAD version. For more details, see our System Requirements.

Can I use AutoCAD® LT with Microvellum?

No, a full version of AutoCAD 2019, 2020, or 2021 is required. If you don’t have a compatible version of AutoCAD®, it’s not a problem. Can I create special one-off parts or will I need a CAD/CAM different software?

Microvellum offers a built-in CAD/CAM interface that allows you to create one-off parts, add unique machining, and can assign tool paths to imported geometry or create new tool paths. Individual parts can be added to projects and processed separately or as part of any batch release for production.

How hard is it to build products that do not already exist in the standard library?

Microvellum provides a product library that has over 300 products including base, uppers, talls, corner cabinets, angled cabinets, fixture products, product starters and more. Any product that exists in the library can be modified, transformed into a new product and saved back to the library for future use.If the desired product cannot be created based off of an existing standard cabinet, you can take advantage of the product starters (cabinet carcasses) and assembly inserts (drawer banks, door and drawer inserts, shelving systems, etc.) to build unique one-of-a-kind products.You can also use the extruded product items that allow you to design or layout the cabinet or framed wall (diewall) based off a user defined geometry (polylines). Simply draw the polyline and select the product that you want to follow that polyline and your product automatically conforms to the geometry drawn. This is very useful when building curved or serpentine wall systems.

Can I use my existing Inventor or Solid Works models with Microvellum?

Using our Solid Model Analyzer, users can analyze models created in 3rd party modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor®, SolidWorks®, SketchUp Pro®, and Rhino® and convert them into fully functional Microvellum products, ready to be optimized and sent to your CNC for machining.

Will I need to purchase third party software to connect to my CNC?

Microvellum’s Direct-Link CNC technology gives you the power to connect to your CNC equipment without the use of third party applications. You have complete control over the post-processor and can even add or customize your post to meet your specific machining needs. This technology allows you to connect to virtually any CNC point-to-point machining center, flat table nested based router, horizontal boring machine, vertical boring machine or CNC enabled chop saw.
